Analysis of "A Ton of Love"
Hey,
We are doing an analysis of a music video by 'Editors'.
A key feature of the music video was fragmented shots, which allowed the audience to see detail but also use a range of shots which might not mean much but at a fast tempo, gives the video a sense of fluidity and fulfilment. Its shot in black and white and plays around with light throughout, which creates wonderful silhouettes and a sophistication about the piece, making it very interesting to watch.

Analysis of "Here It Goes Again"
FUN FACT: This pop video is without editing
The video was really clever. I loved the different actions and dance sequence they did on the treadmills and the way they used a really unique idea to make the video interesting. The fact the video wasn't edited in the slightest makes it that much more exciting and impressive and I was engaged throughout. The video was so intriguing to the stage that I actually don't remember the music playing in the background at all! All in all, although the music might not be to my taste, I appreciate its genius from a media and stylistic point of view.

Analysis of "People, Help The People"
Hi
What do I expect to see?
What do I expect to see?
- Close-ups of the lead singer in particular
- Many abstract shots of groups of people and places
- Maybe some panning or tracking shots taking in panoramic and background shots
- Religious imagery
Regarding my second try at guessing features of music videos, I was definitely closer to being correct. The "many abstract shots of groups of people and places", and "maybe some panning or tracking shots taking in panoramic and background shots" was applied to the video. However, there wasn't any religious imagery and the musician wasn't included at all throughout the entire course of the video. The film was shot all in black and white as well, which was hugely effective giving the video a real sense desperation and sadness, which connects the film to the tone of the songs.
Analysis of "Ambitions"
"If somebodies going to make it, then that somebody ought to be you"
5 things I expect to see in the video:
1) 'Passing the finishing line'
2) A storyline where the main character is attempting to reach a goal
3) Shots of the band interspersed within the video
4) Close-ups
5) Fast pace tempo
After watching the film, I found that my three fairly generic points, being shots of the band interspersed within the video, close-ups and fast pace tempo, were correct. However, the ideas I had for the storyline was wrong. The video really surprised me by using the gimmick of Leprosy as a physical metaphor for lack of ambition. It was very clever and the idea really grew on me. The video was inspired and unique, not what I was expecting but something I really enjoyed.
Another really good technique used was making the music video contrapuntal. The music video is quite dark and depressing, which sharply contrasts with the genre of the music, being pop, which connotes fun and light-hearted.
